Southwest Baptist University offers multiple ways in which high school students can earn college credit before their high school graduation. The two main paths that students can pursue are dual credit and dual enrollment. Learn more about each path and the different options available below.
Courses successfully completed through either dual enrollment or dual credit will result in credit that appears on an official SBU transcript. This credit can then count toward a future SBU degree, or a degree at another institution that accepts SBU credits. Students can also qualify for the dual credit scholarship - applied to their full-time college tuition at SBU - by earning at least six credits through either dual enrollment or dual credit at SBU.
Other benefits of earning college credit while in high school include:
High school students who wish to take college credit while still in high school can take online dual enrollment courses through SBU Prep, a partnership between SBU and CampusEDU.
SBU Prep offers multiple college-level courses through an innovative and accessible online learning platform. Students can complete courses in 16 or 12 weeks, and you are able to sign up for as many courses as you think you can take at a time. Courses cost $300, and you can register through SBUprep.com.
These dual enrollment courses only offer credit from Southwest Baptist University. Students who want to pursue classes that earn dual credit from SBU and their high school can learn more about dual credit options below.
If you are in your last two years of high school and want to get started on college academics, you can do so through dual credit courses offered at your local high school. Dual credit allows a student to earn both high school and college credit for the same course. Visit your high school counselor to learn about available dual credit courses at your high school.
To pursue dual credit, you must meet certain qualifications, including at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale), recommendation by your high school counselor or principal, and any requirements for specific courses.
Seated dual-credit courses are available at certain high school campuses and have been determined to meet the requirements of the equivalent class offered at SBU. Visit your high school counselor to learn about available dual credit courses at your high school.
For more information about seated dual credit courses, eligibility, requirements, payments and more, review the SBU Dual Credit Handbook (PDF). The Handbook also includes the Application for Admission and instructions about how to apply. To view the Handbook, download the PDF from your browser and open it in Acrobat Reader.
If you have questions regarding applications, payments or dropping a class, or any other questions, please contact the Office of Dual Credit at dualcredit@SBUniv.edu.
If you earn six or more hours of college dual credit through SBU, you may be eligible to receive a scholarship to SBU for your undergraduate studies. Download the scholarship announcement to learn about eligibility requirements.

If you have taken general education dual credit courses at other regionally accredited institutions, those credits can transfer to Southwest Baptist University. SBU does not guarantee that non-general education courses will be accepted, but those courses can be reviewed on an individual basis by the area involved. Use our Course Transfer Equivalency Guide to determine if and how a course from another institution will transfer to SBU.
